The Prelims for Group-A and Group-B posts was held from 16 to 29 September 2026 as a computer-based MCQ test (MCQ-CBRT), in several shifts, with different question papers. Before releasing the key, GSSSB is having subject experts check the questions, their options and the correct answers, so that the key has as few errors as possible and fewer objections are needed. Each question had four options. For every wrong answer, **0.25 mark is deducted**. The deduction applies only to wrong answers, so a question you left blank costs you nothing. **Your raw score = number of correct answers − (number of wrong answers × 0.25).** For example, 110 correct, 20 wrong and 20 left blank gives 110 − 5 = 105. **Your final Prelims marks may differ from this raw score.** Because the exam ran in several shifts, GSSSB normalises the marks using the equi-percentile method ([call letter notice of 8 September 2026](https://aijobalert.com/documents/gsssb/gsssb-cce-group-a-b-syllabus-2026-document-2eb71e72.pdf)). Its [note on the normalisation method (7 September 2026)](https://aijobalert.com/documents/gsssb/gsssb-cbrt-multi-shift-normalisation-method-07092026-237da95e.pdf) says that comparing raw marks across shifts of different difficulty would not be fair, and that a detailed explanation will be published later. **Minimum qualifying standard:** 40%, which is 60 of 150. On Prelims merit, **seven times the category-wise vacancies** qualify for each group's Mains. - The CCE covers **7,338 posts**: 2,942 in Group-A and 4,396 in Group-B, as listed in [Corrigendum-2 of 27 February 2026](https://aijobalert.com/documents/gsssb/gsssb-cce-group-a-b-syllabus-2026-document-d043365d.pdf). - The Prelims is a screening test only. **Its marks are not counted in the final select list.** - Everyone who applied with the fee was allowed to take the Prelims provisionally, without checking the application.
