## Selection Process

1. **Written exam** — OMR-based objective exam, 150 questions, 450 marks, 3 hours, with negative marking (−1 for each wrong answer). At least 40% (30% for MP SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD) in each of the two sections.
2. **Document check** — After the result, documents are called by a last date; only candidates found eligible are called for the interview, up to three times the number of posts per category.
3. **Interview** — 50 marks, no minimum mark, as per the exam plan. The advertisement's fewer-than-500-candidates clause gives 100 marks with 41/31 minimum; see the Selection Process section.
4. **Final merit** — Written exam marks plus interview marks, out of 500.

## How to Apply

1. **Check eligibility and keep papers ready** — Check the Law degree, 2 years' experience as an advocate, age and category. All qualifications and certificates must be held by 5 November 2026. Keep your Class 10 marksheet at hand, since the name, father's name and date of birth must match it.
2. **Scan your photograph and signature** — Keep a recent passport-size colour photograph and a scan of your signature ready; both are uploaded in the online form. Certificates are not uploaded. MP-native SC, ST and OBC candidates who want travel expenses also fill in their bank details and upload the first page of their bank passbook.
3. **Fill the online form from 15 October 2026** — Open MPPSC's official website, go to Apply Online and fill the Law Officer form (Advt. 13/2026). Fill every detail carefully; the pop-up after submission shows your name, parents' names, date of birth, category and gender, and you can cancel to fix a mistake.
4. **Pay the fee** — After submitting, press "Proceed for Payment". Pay ₹250 or ₹500 by card or net banking, or in cash at an MP Online kiosk. The application is complete only after payment.
5. **Print and keep the application** — Print the application showing the payment details and "Payment Done", and keep the application number for any letters to the Commission. Apply by 5 November 2026 to avoid the late fee.
6. **Correct mistakes only in the correction window** — Online corrections are allowed from 20 October to 7 November 2026 for ₹50 per session. The name cannot be corrected.
7. **Download the admit card and appear** — The admit card is available from 3 December 2026 on MPPSC's website. The exam is on 13 December 2026 at Indore.

## MPPSC Law Officer 2026 Vacancy Details

The advertisement lists 4 vacancies for the post of Law Officer (Vidhi Adhikari), Department of Jail, Government of Madhya Pradesh. The figures below are copied from the advertisement.

| Category | UR | SC | ST | OBC | EWS | Total |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Vacancies | 2 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | **4** |
| Of these, reserved for women who are Madhya Pradesh natives | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 |

**Persons with disability (Madhya Pradesh natives):** 1 post is reserved for locomotor disability (LD); visual (VH), hearing (HH) and mental (MD) categories have 0 posts. These reserved posts are part of the 4, not extra.

- If no suitable woman candidate of a category is found, the post reserved for women in that category can be filled by a male candidate of the same category.
- The Government can increase the number of posts, after reviewing it, until the result is declared. The number can be reduced at any stage of the selection.
- Selected candidates are appointed on 2 years' probation.

## Eligibility: Qualification, Experience and Domicile

##### Educational qualification and experience

- A Bachelor's degree in Law.
- 2 years' experience as an advocate. The experience certificate and the affidavit have to be given in the format prescribed in the advertisement (the Appendix for the experience certificate).
- Every qualification and certificate (including domicile, caste and EWS certificates) must be held on or before the last date for online application, **5 November 2026**. This applies to candidates who apply with a late fee too.

##### Who can apply

The advertisement invites applications from citizens of India and other categories of applicants recognised under the Constitution of India. Reservation is only for Madhya Pradesh natives (see below).

- **Reservation:** the posts reserved for SC, ST, OBC, women, EWS and persons with disability are only for Madhya Pradesh natives in those categories. Candidates of those categories from other states are treated as unreserved.
- If a post is not advertised for a reserved category, candidates of that category do not get reservation or age relaxation for it and are considered against unreserved posts. They still get the fee concession and travel allowance.
- **Disability:** the latest permanent disability certificate with **40% or more** disability, from the District Medical Board, is needed. A certificate issued on or after 1 June 2021 is valid only if issued through the UDID portal (swavlambancard.gov.in); a manually issued one after that date is invalid.
- **Madhya Pradesh Civil Services rules:** a candidate with more than two living children, one of whom was born on or after 26 January 2001, is not eligible. A candidate convicted of an offence against women is not eligible for appointment. If such a case is pending in court, the appointment is held until the case is finally decided.
- **Employment exchange registration:** Madhya Pradesh natives do not need it while applying, but must submit a live registration certificate of the Madhya Pradesh Employment Exchange (Rozgar Karyalaya) by the last date for sending documents for the interview. Candidates from other states are exempt (the advertisement cites the Jabalpur High Court's final order dated 8 March 2022 in writ petition 5096/2022). Madhya Pradesh residents in government service are exempt with a No Objection Certificate from their department, and those in non-government service with a certificate from their institution.

The advertisement says it is the candidate's own responsibility to check that every condition is met. Being allowed to take the exam or the interview does not mean the candidate has been accepted as eligible, and the candidature can be cancelled at any stage if the candidate is found ineligible.

## Age Limit and Relaxation

The age is counted **as on 1 January 2027**. You must have completed 21 years but not 40 years. Using that rule, a candidate with no relaxation was born between 2 January 1987 and 1 January 2006 (both included). The date of birth that counts is the one on your Class 10 (High School) marksheet, so enter your name, father's name and date of birth exactly as printed there.

##### Age relaxation (Appendix 1)

| Who | Relaxation |
| --- | --- |
| SC, ST, OBC, persons with disability, employees of the government, corporations, boards and autonomous bodies, Nagar Sainik, and women (unreserved or reserved) | 5 years |
| Ex-servicemen (Madhya Pradesh ex-servicemen as defined in the 1985 rules) | The whole period of earlier defence service is deducted from the age, but the age so worked out cannot be more than 3 years above the upper limit |
| Couples awarded under the inter-caste marriage incentive scheme (the partner who is not from SC/ST/OBC) | 5 years |
| Sportspersons honoured with the Vikram Award | 5 years |

- If a candidate qualifies for relaxation on more than one ground, only one ground is counted.
- The relaxation for SC, ST, OBC, persons with disability, ex-servicemen and women is only for Madhya Pradesh natives.
- With all relaxations included, a candidate older than **45 years** cannot apply.
- A Madhya Pradesh government servant gets the relaxation only if in continuous service from the last date of the online form until the interview day; one who is not in service on the interview day does not get it.
- A Madhya Pradesh ex-serviceman who retires from service after the last date of the online form does not get the ex-serviceman relaxation.

## Application Fee, Late Fee and Correction

| Candidate | Fee |
| --- | --- |
| Madhya Pradesh natives belonging to SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), economically weaker section or persons with disability | ₹250 |
| All other categories, and candidates who live outside Madhya Pradesh | ₹500 |

- **How to pay:** credit card, debit card or internet banking online, or cash at an authorised MP Online kiosk. Bank drafts and cheques are not accepted.
- Before you finish, check that the payment details and "Payment Done" show clearly on your application.
- The fee is returned, to the candidate's account, only if the advertisement itself is cancelled. Excess or wrong payments (including those made through a kiosk) are not accepted for refund.

##### Late fee

| Dates | Late fee for applying online |
| --- | --- |
| 6 November 2026 (Friday) to 12 November 2026 (Thursday) | ₹3,000 |
| 13 November 2026 (Friday) to 18 November 2026 (Wednesday) | ₹25,000 |

The advertisement asks candidates to apply by 5 November 2026 so that no late fee is needed. Candidates applying in the late-fee period must still hold every qualification by 5 November 2026.

##### Correction of the online form

- Corrections can be made **only online, from 20 October 2026 to 7 November 2026 (till 12 midnight)**, for a fee of ₹50 per correction session. An authorised MP Online kiosk can be used.
- For forms submitted with a late fee, the correction fee is also ₹50 per session and corrections are allowed only till 18 November 2026.
- **Your name cannot be corrected.** Corrections are not allowed at the exam or interview stage.
- Changing the category from reserved to unreserved needs the fee difference (₹250) on top of the ₹50 correction fee. Changing from unreserved to reserved gets no refund of the fee difference.
- Category, class, gender (male/female), government-servant status and date of birth are counted as filled in the form. After the correction period, no request to change them is accepted.

## MPPSC Law Officer Exam Pattern 2026

| Part | Questions | Marks |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Section A: General Studies | 50 | 150 |
| Section B: Subject (Law) | 100 | 300 |
| **Written exam total** | **150** | **450** |
| Interview | – | 50 |
| **Total** | – | **500** |

- **Duration:** 3 hours, in one sitting, for both sections.
- **Type:** multiple choice with four options (A, B, C, D), OMR-sheet based (offline). Choose only one option; an answer with more than one option marked is treated as unattempted.
- **Marking:** each question carries 3 marks. For every wrong answer 1 mark is deducted (marks = 3R − W, where R is the number of right and W the number of wrong answers).
- **Language:** Sections A and B are in Hindi and English. If the two versions differ, the Hindi version is valid.
- **Qualifying marks:** at least 40% in each of the two sections separately. For Madhya Pradesh SC, ST, OBC, EWS and disability (PH) candidates the minimum is 30% in each section. The merit of the written exam is the total of the marks in both sections.
- **Centre:** the exam is held at centres in Indore. You need not be given the Indore centre you choose; the Commission can allot another centre.
- **Admit card:** available on 3 December 2026 on MPPSC's website.

##### Provisional answer key and objections

- After the exam, a provisional answer key is put on MPPSC's website and objections are accepted online for **5 days**. Objections received after that are not considered.
- Fee: ₹150 per question (non-refundable), plus a portal fee of ₹40 per sitting (also non-refundable).
- A subject expert committee decides the objections. If the key gives a wrong answer and another option is right, the key is corrected. If more than one option is right, all are accepted. If no option is right, the question is removed from the question paper. For such questions all candidates who took the exam get the marks equally, and the total marks of the exam stay the same.
- The final answer key is then published; after that no objection or correspondence is accepted, and the committee's decision is final.

## Selection Process

1. **Written exam:** OMR-based objective exam of 450 marks on 13 December 2026 with negative marking (see the exam pattern above).
2. **Document check and interview call:** after the result, the Commission asks successful candidates to send their documents by a last date. Only candidates found eligible after a close check of the documents are called for the interview. For each category, candidates up to **three times** the number of posts, with those tied on the last marks, are called, in order of marks in the written exam. A candidate who does not appear at the interview is treated as not eligible for selection.
3. **Interview:** 50 marks, with no minimum qualifying mark (as per the exam plan).
4. **Final merit:** in order of the total of the written exam and interview marks.

**Note on the advertisement's "fewer than 500 candidates" clause:** pages 6 and 7 of the advertisement also say that if the number of candidates is below 500, selection will be on the interview. In that case candidates are called for the interview according to the number of posts (for 4 to 6 posts, up to 36 candidates), the interview is out of 100 marks, and the minimum qualifying mark is 41 for unreserved and 31 for reserved and disability categories. The exam plan, issued the same day, gives 50 marks for the interview with no minimum. Read both PDFs on MPPSC's website before the interview.

- The Commission does not show marks or category-wise cut-offs before the final selection.
- If a computer or clerical error is found after the result, the Commission can correct the result.
- The list of candidates called for the interview is published only in the "Rozgar aur Nirman" newspaper and on MPPSC's website. The Commission does not inform candidates in any other way. Candidates who do not send their documents by the date given in that notice lose their candidature.

## Travel Expenses (MP SC, ST and OBC Candidates)

- Madhya Pradesh natives belonging to SC, ST or OBC who are not in service are eligible for travel expenses for the exam and the interview, under the rules in force of the Madhya Pradesh Government.
- **For the exam:** the fare for travel from the city or village of the current address given in the online form to the allotted exam city and back is paid.
- To claim it, fill the declaration form given by the Commission's centre superintendent and submit it with a self-attested copy of your permanent caste certificate issued by the revenue sub-divisional officer, and your travel ticket showing the date of travel, from where to where you travelled and the fare.
- After the Commission checks the documents, the amount is paid online into your bank account. For this, enter your bank name, account number and IFSC code in the online form and **upload a scan of the first page of your bank passbook with the application**. The advertisement calls this mandatory.
- **For the interview:** candidates who appear are paid travel expenses by the Commission's office under the same rules.

## Documents Needed After the Exam

You do not upload any certificate with the online form (you upload your photograph and signature; MP-native SC, ST and OBC candidates claiming travel expenses also upload a bank passbook page, see the Travel Expenses section). The documents are sent to the Commission, with the forms below and a self-attested copy of your application, after the exam, by the last date in the notice for shortlisted candidates. On the interview day you must be present at the Commission's office with copies of the documents arranged in the way the interview letter directs (the advertisement's Appendix form 01 is the checklist). Forms are on [MPPSC's Download Formats page](https://mppsc.mp.gov.in/Downloadformats).

- Attendance sheet (1 original), personal details form (1 original and 5 separate photocopies) and Anupraman (verification) form (1 original)
- Declaration that you are not debarred from any selection or exam (1 original)
- Class 10 (High School) and Class 12 marksheets, marksheets of all years and degree for the qualification (the Law degree), and proof of 2 years' experience as an advocate

- Madhya Pradesh domicile or local residence certificate, with round seal, dispatch number and date, issued on or before 5 November 2026
- Caste certificate in the format prescribed for Madhya Pradesh government service, issued on or before 5 November 2026 (certificates from other states are not valid; for married women, the certificate bearing the father's name along with their own name)
- OBC candidates: declaration that they are not in the creamy layer (the advertisement gives the format)
- EWS candidates: valid EWS certificate for financial year 2026-27, issued on or before 5 November 2026
- Married women who changed their surname after marriage: affidavit
- Persons with disability: disability certificate (see Eligibility)

- The "abhivachan" (undertaking) form regarding the main part (87%) and provisional part (13%) of the posts, available on MPPSC's website

The certificates must be issued on or before the dates given in the advertisement. If a document is missing, the candidature can be cancelled, and the responsibility is the candidate's.

## Mistakes the Advertisement Warns About

- Check every detail before submitting. After the correction period, no change is accepted, and the Commission does not write to candidates about category, class or date-of-birth changes.
- Your name cannot be corrected at any stage. Use the name, father's name and date of birth exactly as on your Class 10 marksheet.
- After you submit, the pop-up shows your name, parents' names, date of birth, category and gender. Press Cancel to go back and fix a mistake; press OK to submit. The application stays "Unpaid" until you pay.
- Applications are accepted only online. Applications sent in any other way are not accepted.
- Giving wrong or false information, or submitting more than one application, can lead to cancellation of your candidature at any stage of the selection, and the Commission can also debar you from its other exams. The same applies if you apply without meeting the qualifications the advertisement requires.
- The signature on the form must match your signature on the attendance sheet and later documents. A mismatch can cancel candidature.
- The photograph should be a recent colour passport-size photo, facing the camera, with a plain light (preferably white) background. Caps, hats, dark glasses and selfies are not accepted; religious headwear is allowed if it does not cover the face.
- A qualification or certificate obtained after 5 November 2026 does not count for this recruitment.
- Candidates from outside Madhya Pradesh pay ₹500 and are treated as unreserved.
