- The syllabus notes that grammar terms are not introduced at this stage.

##### English (Classes 1 to 3)

- The three class-wise tables are replaced by a Classes 1 to 3 syllabus, set out for Classes 1 and 2 and for Class 3, each arranged by four curricular goals (CG 1 listening and speaking; CG 2 reading and CG 3 writing, with functional grammar and vocabulary; CG 4 values and life skills), with class-wise learning outcomes.
- The old Objectives, Classroom procedure and Evaluation columns are gone. Notes on Arts, Life Skills and Values are added, and grammar is learnt naturally through use, with grammatical terms introduced later only to the extent needed.

##### Mathematics (Classes 1 to 3)

- Class 1 counts, reads and writes numbers up to 50 (the old Class 1 worked with numbers up to 20, with 21 to 49/99 as an optional part). Class 3 works with numbers up to 999, including addition and subtraction up to 999 (the old Class 3 had numbers up to 1000).
- Fractions (fractions used in everyday life, as equal share) are now in Class 3; in the old syllabus they started in Class 4.

##### Environmental Studies (Classes 1 to 3)

- **Class 3 Science:** eight themes: World of Plants, Food we eat, The Human Body, First Aid and Safety, World of Animals, Materials and Designs, Elements (soil), and Patterns and Interactions in Nature. Force, states of matter and the thermometer are no longer in Class 3. A "First Aid & Safety" theme is added (its goal is basic first aid and keeping safe; its listed content is keeping safe when lost, safe and unsafe touch, touching rules, secrets and respect), and soil, a Class 5 topic in the old syllabus, is now in Class 3.
- **Class 3 Social Science:** nine curricular goals (Myself and Others; Self-worth and rights; local institutions; Arts and Sports in community life; History from local to global; Earth and natural environment; Movement of the Earth; Transport and Communication; Exploring Space) replace the old ten units, which named topics such as Panchayat, District Administration and Freedom fighters of Tamil Nadu.
