The Indian Army has opened applications for the 145th Technical Graduate Course (TGC-145). There are 30 vacancies (tentative) for engineering graduates, and the course starts in July 2027 at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun. Candidates who complete training get a Permanent Commission as Lieutenant.
The online form is open from 30 September 2026, 3:00 PM to 29 October 2026, 3:00 PM on joinindianarmy.nic.in. The notification lists no written exam: applications are shortlisted on a stream-wise cut-off of your degree marks, and shortlisted candidates go to an SSB interview, followed by a medical examination for those recommended.
Who can apply: unmarried male candidates aged 20 to 27 on 1 July 2027 (born between 1 July 2000 and 30 June 2007, both dates included) with a BE/B.Tech, or M.Sc Computer Science, in one of the streams notified in the table below. Final-year students can apply if their result is declared by 1 July 2027.
Check these before you fill the form:
Fill your engineering stream exactly as it is printed on your degree or marksheet. Any difference in the stream name cancels your candidature.
Your name, parents' names and date of birth must match your Class 10 (Matriculation) certificate. You need your Aadhaar number and Class 10 certificate to register.
If your degree uses CGPA, convert it to marks using your university's own formula. The form works out a plain percentage, but the percentage your university gives after its conversion is final.
Submit only one application. You cannot change anything after the form closes.
Declare in your application, and at the SSB, any previous training at a training academy and any release, withdrawal, resignation or dismissal from it, and any medical invalidment or unfitness. Hiding such information can cancel your candidature at any stage up to the grant of commission, or after it.
The notification does not mention any application fee.

You can apply while in the final year of your engineering degree, on these conditions:
Also not eligible: candidates with an engineering degree from a foreign country, and candidates withdrawn, dismissed, removed or invalided out of any defence training academy on disciplinary, administrative or medical grounds that make them ineligible for further military service.
Shortlisting: applications are shortlisted stream-wise on a vacancy-to-call-up ratio, with a cut-off on your cumulative percentage. The notification does not give the cut-off. If your percentage falls below the cut-off after your university's CGPA conversion, don't report for the SSB even if you were shortlisted.
Choosing your SSB date: after shortlisting, log in to the website and pick your SSB date and centre. Slots go on a first come, first served basis. Once chosen, the date and centre are not changed on request, though the Army can change them.
SSB centres: Prayagraj (UP), Bhopal (MP), Bengaluru (Karnataka) and Jalandhar (Punjab). The call-up letter comes only by e-mail and SMS from the selection centre.
Two stages: those who fail Stage-1 are sent back the same day. The SSB lasts up to five days, followed by a medical examination for recommended candidates. Medical standards are on joinindianarmy.nic.in.
Medical validity: an SSB medical (SMB/AMB/RMB) for the Army is valid for 270 days. If you were declared fit at such a medical and the gap between it and 1 July 2027 is less than 270 days, you don't need another one.
Merit list: made stream-wise on SSB marks. On equal marks, the older candidate ranks higher; if age is also equal, the higher degree percentage ranks higher. Joining letters go to candidates within the stream vacancies who are medically fit, subject to meeting all eligibility criteria.
Joining: if you don't report within 7 days of the reporting date in your joining letter without the Adjutant's permission, the seat goes to the next candidate.
Travel: if this is your first SSB for this type of commission, you get AC-III train fare or bus fare both ways. There is no travel allowance for later attempts.
Carry the originals and one self-attested copy of each to the selection centre. If any of these is missing, your candidature is cancelled and you are sent back. DigiLocker certificates are not accepted in place of originals.
If your name or your parents' names differ across your educational documents, the notification says you must submit an affidavit stating the variations.
If your school or college issues certificates only through DigiLocker, get a certificate from the Principal or Registrar saying so, and bring a colour printout of the e-certificate authenticated by them. Serving armed forces personnel must inform their Commanding Officer in writing and bring the application countersigned by the CO.
You must reach these minimum standards before joining the training academy:
| Activity | Minimum standard |
|---|---|
| 2.4 km run | 10 minutes 30 seconds |
| Push-ups | 40 |
| Pull-ups | 06 |
| Sit-ups | 30 |
| Squats | Two sets of 30 repetitions |
| Lunges | Two sets of 10 repetitions |
| Swimming | Should know the fundamentals of swimming |
During training at IMA you get a fixed stipend of ₹56,100 a month. On commissioning, your pay is fixed in the first cell of Level 10. The training period does not count as commissioned service, but arrears of admissible allowances for that period are paid.
| Rank | Pay level | Pay (₹) | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lieutenant | Level 10 | 56,100–1,77,500 | On commission |
